Nimbus Weather is een weerapp voor Android. Dit beleid legt uit welke gegevens de app gebruikt en waarom. Kort gezegd: de app heeft geen account, verzamelt geen persoonsgegevens voor eigen gebruik, toont geen advertenties en bevat geen trackers.
Als je op "Gebruik mijn locatie" tikt, vraagt de app eenmalig toestemming voor je locatie. Je positie wordt alleen gebruikt om het weer voor jouw omgeving op te halen en om een plaatsnaam te bepalen. De app deelt je locatie daarvoor met de weerdienst van Google en, in Nederland en België, afgerond met onze regenserver (zie hieronder). Wij bewaren je locatie niet in een eigen database; de laatst gekozen plaats wordt alleen op je toestel bewaard zodat de app snel kan starten. Je kunt de app ook zonder locatie gebruiken door een stad te zoeken.
Weerinformatie en radartegels komen van het Google Maps Platform Weather API (powered by Google WeatherNext 3). Daarbij ontvangt Google de coördinaten waarvoor je het weer opvraagt en technische gegevens zoals je IP-adres. De achtergrondkaart van de radar komt van OpenStreetMap. Voor een plek in Nederland of België toont de app de verwachte regen voor de komende twee uur, per 5 minuten. Die komt van de neerslagradar van het KNMI (open data, CC BY 4.0). De app vraagt die op bij onze eigen server (Google Cloud Run, in de EU), en stuurt daarbij alleen de op ongeveer 1 kilometer afgeronde coördinaten mee, geen exact adres. De server bewaart die niet; Google Cloud houdt wel technische verzoeklogboeken bij (met die afgeronde plek en je IP-adres), die na 30 dagen automatisch worden verwijderd. Wij gebruiken die logboeken alleen om storingen op te sporen.
De regenmelding staat standaard uit. Zet je hem aan, of plaats je de Nimbus-widget op je startscherm, dan haalt de app ongeveer elk half uur tot elk uur de uurverwachting op voor je laatst gekozen plaats, ook als de app dicht is. Daarvoor gaan alleen de coördinaten van die plaats naar de weerdienst van Google en, in Nederland en België, afgerond naar onze regenserver, net als bij normaal gebruik. De app vraagt geen toegang tot je locatie op de achtergrond. Meldingen worden op je toestel zelf gemaakt; wij ontvangen niets. Zet de regenmelding uit en haal de widget weg, dan stopt dit verversen.
Zoeken op plaatsnaam gebeurt eerst in een lijst van steden die in de app zelf zit (bron: GeoNames.org, CC BY 4.0), zonder dat je zoekopdracht het toestel verlaat. Vindt die lijst te weinig, dan gebruikt de app de plaatsenzoeker van Android op je toestel.
Na een paar keer gebruik kan de app via Google Play vragen om een beoordeling; dat venster en wat je daarin invult worden door Google afgehandeld. Kies je zelf voor Delen, dan maakt de app op je toestel een plaatje van het weer van vandaag en geeft dat door aan de app die jij kiest.
Je voorkeuren (taal, °C/°F, thema, laatst gekozen plaats) worden uitsluitend lokaal op je toestel opgeslagen. Ze worden niet naar ons verzonden.
De app is geschikt voor alle leeftijden en verzamelt geen gegevens van kinderen.
Omdat wij geen gegevens over jou bewaren, volstaat het om de app te verwijderen; daarmee verdwijnen ook alle lokaal opgeslagen voorkeuren.

Nimbus Weather is a weather app for Android. This policy explains what data the app uses and why. In short: there is no account, we do not collect personal data for our own use, there are no ads and no trackers.
When you tap "Use my location", the app asks for location permission once. Your position is used only to fetch the weather for your area and to determine a place name. For that purpose the app shares your location with Google's weather service and, in the Netherlands and Belgium, rounded with our rain server (see below). We do not keep your location in a database of our own; the last chosen place is kept on your device only so the app can start quickly. You can also use the app without location by searching for a city.
Weather information and radar tiles come from the Google Maps Platform Weather API (powered by Google WeatherNext 3). Google receives the coordinates you request weather for and technical data such as your IP address. The radar base map comes from OpenStreetMap. For a place in the Netherlands or Belgium the app shows the rain expected in the next two hours, per 5 minutes. It comes from the precipitation radar of KNMI, the Dutch meteorological institute (open data, CC BY 4.0). The app asks our own server for it (Google Cloud Run, in the EU) and only sends the coordinates rounded to about 1 kilometre, never an exact address. The server does not store them; Google Cloud does keep technical request logs (with that rounded place and your IP address), which are deleted automatically after 30 days. We use those logs only to investigate outages.
Rain alerts are off by default. If you turn them on, or place the Nimbus widget on your home screen, the app fetches the hourly forecast for your last chosen place about every thirty to sixty minutes, also when the app is closed. Only that place's coordinates are sent to Google's weather service and, in the Netherlands and Belgium, rounded to our rain server, just like during normal use. The app does not ask for background location access. Notifications are created on your device; we receive nothing. Turn rain alerts off and remove the widget and the background refresh stops.
Place search first uses a list of cities built into the app (source: GeoNames.org, CC BY 4.0), so your query does not leave the device. If that list finds too little, the app uses Android's place search on your device.
After a few uses the app may ask for a rating through Google Play; that dialog and anything you enter in it are handled by Google. If you choose Share, the app creates an image of today's weather on your device and passes it to the app you pick.
Your preferences (language, °C/°F, theme, last chosen place) are stored locally on your device only and are never sent to us.
The app is suitable for all ages and does not collect data from children.
Since we keep no data about you, uninstalling the app removes all locally stored preferences.
